It happened just before 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday Jan. 21.
The man, Elmer D. Rios-Molina, of Hempstead, was traveling southbound on the parkway north of Exit M7, in Hempstead, when he lost control of the vehicle and struck the tree in the center median, according to state police.
Rios-Molina was transported to Nassau University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
Rios-Molina was the only occupant in the vehicle.
